Detailed Profiles

1. Punch Imlach (1970–1978)

The Founding Father. Hired before the team even had a name, Imlach built the expansion Sabres from scratch. Famous for the 1970 draft-wheel spin that landed Gilbert Perreault. Laid the foundation for the French Connection era and took the team to the 1975 Stanley Cup Final.

2. John Anderson (1978–1979)

Brief transitional GM. Oversaw one playoff appearance before Scotty Bowman arrived.

3. Scotty Bowman (1979–1986)

The Legend. One of the greatest minds in hockey history. Brought structure, discipline, and consistent contention to Buffalo.

4. Gerry Meehan (1986–1993)

First former Sabre to become GM. Orchestrated blockbuster deals that brought future Hall of Famers to Buffalo and kept the team competitive.

5. John Muckler (1993–1997)

Delivered the 1996-97 division title and was named NHL Executive of the Year.

6. Darcy Regier (1997–2013)

The longest-tenured GM in franchise history. Guided the team to the 1999 Stanley Cup Final, won the Presidents’ Trophy in 2006-07, and oversaw the Dominik Hasek/Chris Drury/Mike Peca golden era.

7. Tim Murray (2014–2017)

Launched the post-lockout rebuild. Drafted Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart in the top 5.

8. Jason Botterill (2017–2020)

Selected Rasmus Dahlin #1 overall. Focused on high-end talent but couldn’t end the playoff drought.

9. Kevyn Adams (2020–2025)

First-time GM who traded Jack Eichel and navigated the COVID era. Despite strong prospect development, the team missed the playoffs every season under his watch.

10. Jarmo Kekäläinen (2025–Present)

The newest chapter. Former Columbus GM and first hire with prior NHL GM experience since Scotty Bowman.

The Sabres have been through 10 different front-office leaders in 56 years. Some built legends. Some endured rebuilds. All of them shaped the Blue & Gold we love. Go Sabres!
